
Marie (Stark) Blood, 99, formerly of Avon, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at John Dempsey Hospital.
She was born July 2, 1916 in Jamaica, VT, the daughter of the late Pearl and Carrie (Park) Stark. Marie attended a one-room school house for eight years and graduated from Chester High School. She married Clinton Blood, also from Grafton. The couple began married life in VT but moved to East Windsor in 1938. In 1943, along with their two sons Douglas and Eric, they moved to Secret Lake in Avon where Marie lived for the next 59 years. In 2002 she moved to Canton.
During the late 1940’s Marie wrote a weekly column for the former Farmington Valley Herald which sold for .05 cents per copy. Later she was employed by the State of CT Education Department and then worked as an Executive Secretary for Architectural and Engineering firms in West Hartford for 30 years retiring in 1984.

She belonged to the Avon and Canton Seniors and volunteered at FAVARH Thrift Shop for 20 years. With no formal training but a natural ear for music, Marie played the piano for many celebrations throughout her life. She also took great pleasure in sending cards and notes to family and friends for whatever the occasion.
Marie was predeceased by her son Douglas, brother Holland, sister Lucile Roarke, former daughter-in-law Linda (Platt) Blood and former husband Clinton. Marie is survived by her son Eric (wife Gail) of New Hartford, daughter-in-law Anita Blood Sullivan (husband Richard) of Canton; grandchildren Christopher Blood (wife Heidi) of Newport Beach, CA, Julie Raap (husband Timothy) of New Hartford, Tricia Blood of New Fairfield and Matthew Blood (partner Jeffrey Becherer) of Brooklyn, NY; great grandchildren Mackenzie, Ashley, Cody, Nathan and Carter.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cherry Brook Health Care for the wonderful care Marie received over the years.
