Jonathan Quick Leads the L.A. Kings to Victory in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

2005 Avon Old Farms School graduate shines in overtime.

Goalie Jonathan Quick, a 2005  graduate, held off intense overtime pressure to help lead the Lost Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory in Game 1 of the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup Final. 

The goalie stopped 17 of 18 shots by the New Jersey Devils in the team's 9th-in-a-row road victory. 

The 26-year-old Quick has made quite a name for himself this season with 10 shutouts and a 1.95 goals against average that helped propel him to be a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.

In Avon, Quick and the Winged Beavers won hockey championships his junior and senior years. He went on to play for the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and was drafted by the Kings in 2005. 

Wednesday night, the game went into overtime and Quick faced intense pressure from the Devils before his team Anze Kopitar beat New Jersey's Martin Brodeur on a breakaway.

The Kings and the New Jersey Devils will play Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Saturday night.
