Avon Police Issue Statement Concerning Duct-Taped Dog
A photo of a dog with its mouth duct-taped closed has circulated on the Internet since late last week; Avon has an apparent connection.

A photo of a dog with its mouth shut via duct tape has exploded on the Internet, and prompted involvement of the Avon Police Department.
The Facebook posting by someone under the name Katie Brown includced the comment, “This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!”
South Daytona, Fla. is listed as the hometown of the person who made the post, but considerable confusion has arisen as to the true location and identity of the person responsible.

Numerous social media posts in north-central Connecticut indicate the person has ties to the town of Avon.
Avon Police Chief Mark Rinaldo issued the following statement Monday:

“We have received an outpouring of telephone calls and e-mail about the recent Facebook posting of a dog with its mouth duct-taped closed. We thank everyone for their concern. The Avon Police Department Animal Control Officer is actively investigating this case and we want to assure you that we take all cases of animal abuse very seriously.
The Avon Police Department is continuing our investigation of this incident, including pursuit of all leads in the case.
We are also actively working with the South Daytona (Florida) Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to locate Katie Brown, determine the status of her dog and ascertain the correct jurisdiction of this incident.
