Avon Releases Annual Report

Chronicles major things that have happened on the government side of town.

The Town of Avon has released its annual report, which details budgets and other information for the town.

A couple of highlights:

  • Town increased budget to $830,000 from a little over $600,000 from previous fiscal year.
  • School system is aligning itself with Common Core State Standards.
  • More than 30 staff members were welcomed to the school district, including a new assistant principal and director of athletics.
  • Spending was raised by 2.6 percent and the mill rate by 2.41 percent for fiscal year 2014/2015.
  • Roaring Brook School’s classroom floors and ceiling tiles were mostly replaced. So was fire system.
  • Many town buildings and schools were outfitted with solar arrays that will help reduce the town’s carbon footprint.Town was awarded a $450,000 STEAP grant to implemnt Village Center lighting and sidewalk plan.
