Dining At This Avon Resident's Place Is An Artistic Journey
The Avon Historical Society this month announced the winners of its annual 'Tablescapes' dinner place setting contest.

AVON, CT — One local woman proved earlier this month that dinner at her place is more than just a meal ... it's an artistic journey.
Avon resident Tracy Murphy was the winner of the Avon Historical Society's "Tablescapes 2023" fund-raiser March 17-18.
This event showcases its participants' abilities to create artistic table settings that are much, much more than a plate in the middle, a cup on the right and a fork on the left.

These "tablescapes," are a blend of flowers, decorations and color, with Murphy's wonder, entitled "A Sneak-Peak SPRING!" garnering the most oohs and ahs at the Belle Ballroom, North House, in Avon.
Her eye-popping creation was a cornucopia of springtime-theme decorations to the level that would probably have made a diner reticent at disrupting the setting just to eat.

Murphy, a resident of Avon, was sponsored by Services for the Elderly of Farmington, according to the Avon Historical Society.
Proceeds from the event benefit the renovation of what will become the “Avon History Museum,” a one- room schoolhouse located at 8 E. Main St. (Route 44) in the original center of Avon. It is scheduled to open in 2024.
Murphy's ode to spring wasn't the only participant honored.
Avon resident Laura Hunt took second-place with her holiday-theme work entitled “Merry Christmas."
Third place was for “What’s the Buzz?” and it was decorated by members of The Garden Club of Avon.
"The Society thanks all exhibitors, attendees and volunteers for making this fourth event their best ever," wrote the Avon Historical Society in an announcement.
Meanwhile, organizers are already planning for Tablescapes 2024, which is March 15-16, 2024, in the Belle Ballroom of The North House in Avon.
