Avon School Participating in Screen-Free Week

During Screen-Free Week, millions of children and adults pledge to spend seven days screen-free.

On Friday, May 8, the students at Pine Grove School - and their parents - began participating in Screen-Free Week.

During Screen-Free Week, millions of children and adults pledge to spend seven days screen-free (with the exception of school and work, of course). Instead of watching TV, playing video games, or tinkering around on iPods, they tend to read, play, think, create, get physically active, and spend more time with friends and family.

Did you know that today’s American children spend an average of seven hours each day on entertainment media?

During Screen-Free week, many parents choose to join their children in forgoing screen-based entertainment and engage in other fun activities.

Throughout the week, activities will be offered, ranging from dodgeball to beading to salsa dancing to aquatics games to Mad Science to teacher-led bike rides. On Friday, there will be a school assembly called the “Brain Challenge.” This is a “live” interactive TV game show featuring grade level questions.
