Avon Town Center Plan Approved

The Planning & Zoning Commission approved the controversial proposal at a special meeting Tuesday night.

Despite some opposition voiced by town residents over the course of several hearings, the Avon Planning & Zoning Commission approved a proposal to redevelop the town center area at a special meeting Tuesday night, the Hartford Courant reported.

The proposal by the Carpionato Group, LLC of Rhode Island involves redevelopment of 92 acres surrounding Town Hall, including construction of commercial storefronts, office buildings, restaurants and apartments.

Also included in the plans are a new town green.

The developer estimates the cost at about $250 million.
