Avon's Budget And Tax Hike: What You Need To Know
Avon Thursday released information on how folks can attend Monday's budget meeting, which can be seen in-person and virtually.

AVON, CT — Town officials Thursday released more information about Avon's budget meeting Monday, including how people can log in and see or listen to it virtually if they need to.
The meeting, slated for Monday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at Avon High School's auditorium, is important because it will give residents a chance to learn about the town's spending plan and tax increase.
Monday's town meeting then will adjourn to a budget referendum May 10 at the Avon Senior Center, when voters have the final say on this version of municipal spending.

The combined town/school budget proposal is $110.1 million, a budget 3.62 percent larger than current spending.
At that level, the budget plan will require a tax hike, with the mill rate tentatively slated to grow from 34.61 to 35.39 mills, for a 0.78-mill tax increase.

It means if your home is assessed at $250,000, your taxes this year will increase by $195.
Early versions of the budget, actually, called for a 1.1-mill tax hike, but local leaders were able to adjust the budget to a mill rate increase of just 0.78.
For those attending Monday's meeting, the first several rows in the auditorium will be reserved for members of the Avon Town Council, Avon Board of Finance and Avon Board of Education, as well as town staff.
The meeting will also be livestreamed via GoToMeeting.
However, there will be no opportunity for the virtual audience to provide public comment during the meeting.
Electors or taxpayers wishing to provide public comment must attend the meeting in-person at the Avon High School Auditorium.
