Award-Winning Pianist to Perform At Avon Public Library
Free concert featuring Joon Yoon, winner of the 2015 Connecticut Young Artist Piano Competition.
On Sunday, February 21, the Avon Free Public Library will be the setting for a solo performance by the exciting young concert pianist Yonjoon “Joon” Yoon, the next event in the popular winter musical series Sundays at Threesponsored by the Friends of the Library. A native of Seoul, Korea, Yoon made his solo recital debut at the age of 12 in his native country and his concerto debut at the age of 13 in the U.S. An avid solo and chamber musician with a wide-ranging repertoire, his program will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Ravel.
Since coming to the U.S. Yoon has been a top prizewinner in numerous competitions including the 2015 Connecticut Young Artist Piano Competition, the Plano Texas Concerto Competition, the Liszt-Garrison Piano Competition, Fite Family Young Artist Piano Competition in Missouri, and the Louisiana International Piano Competition Junior Division. He was a recipient of the 23rd Annual Award from Peabody Preparatory, placing first in the school’s concerto competition. Before coming to this country he was a top prizewinner of the International Chopin Competition in Asia and the Eumyoun Piano Competition. Recently, he was a medalist in the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona and the Iowa Piano Competition.
Yoon has performed solo and chamber music in prestigious venues including Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Petit Palau of Palau de la Musica, Seoul Arts Center, and Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. He has made concerto appearances with the Peabody Sinfonietta and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. In 2014 and 2015, he was one of the first to be a fellow of the Bowdoin International Music Festival’s Kaplan Fellowship program. Yoon graduated from the Juilliard School with a full-tuition scholarship, and he is now continuing his studies at the Yale School of Music for a Master of Music degree with Hung-Kuan Chen.

The free, one-hour program starts promptly at 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Doors open at 2:30. The Friends of the Library will be serving light refreshments after the performance, and there will be an opportunity to meet this exciting young artist.
