Bears Have Trampoline Party In Backyard

Last week it was a bear looking for brownies, now a group of bears is having a trampoline party.

AVON, CT — Last week, it was the bear after the brownies ... now, it's the bears on the trampoline.

A resident sent NBC Connecticut meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan a video clip of some young bears frolicking on her trampoline, and he posted it on Facebook.

Avon has become bear central in the state. The 558 sightings recorded between May 16, 2016, and May 14, 2017, easily lead the state. Farmington is next with 433. See a town-by-town sighting chart here.

Last week, a resident of Stagecoach Road in Avon shared images of a black bear knocking on the sliding door with WFSB.

The homeowner told a friend of WFSB anchor Dennis House she thought it might be the smell of fresh brownies that attracted the bear.

Officials from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection say anyone seeing a bear should:

  • Observe it from a distance.
  • Advertise your presence by shouting and waving your arms or walk slowly away.
  • Never attempt to feed or attract bears.
  • Report bear sightings to the Wildlife Division, at 860-424-3011.
