Reflections on the Nutritional Seminar From Cathy Savage at Snap Fitness Avon
Snap Fitness Club Manager Jessica Bergen writes about the Cathy Savage Fitness Nutrition Seminar on February 23, 2013.
Last weekend, our members had the extraordinary opportunity to meet and rub elbows with Cathy Savage of Cathy Savage Fitness. Cathy Savage Fitness is devoted to helping both female and male figure athletes prepare for the stage with posing clinics and nutritional aid, among other services. We had a great turnout, with many attendees looking to improve their knowledge of nutrition and making some lifestyle changes. Cathy arrived at the club with one mission- to explain the importance of GOOD nutrition in a way that was relatable and understandable to the general public. She discussed many nutrition topics, but her take home message was that our society as a whole needs to switch our focus to eating as much of things that we know we can kill, pick, or grow. In other words, we need to have a better grasp on what is really in our food (if you can’t pronounce it, don’t buy it), and make sure they come from natural, organic sources as much as possible. She placed an emphasis on the fact that our modern environment is filled with many toxins; from jet fuel in the air, to pesticides in our soil. She explained that these toxins build up in our bodies over time, and that we have to help our bodies successfully process and remove them. The body only understands how to metabolize and eliminate naturally occurring waste, and is less able to successfully remove things which are man-made. Many of the Isagenix products not only aid in proper nutrition, but they also cleanse the body as well. And coming from the very clean island of New Zealand, their protein is one of THE very best on the market.
During her hour-long seminar, inflammation was another topic of conversation, as well as its relationship to food cravings. Cathy informed us that even though women tend to sensationalize cravings and relate them to our emotions, the truth of the matter is that they are a direct result of inflammation in our bodies. Everyone listened carefully as Cathy discussed the fact that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that 70% of chronic diseases (i.e., health problems) are a result of lifestyle. This includes both foods consumed and a lack of sufficient physical activity. This information reiterates the important relationship between food and physical activity. In fact, all of Cathy’s athletes use the Isagenix nutritional line not only for competitions, but also for their own health and nutrition. As Michele likes to say, “If you eat like everyone else, you will look like everyone else”. Isagenix is EASY to use and helps to prevent those terrible cravings while maintaining a steady blood sugar level throughout the day.
Those in attendance at the seminar gave Michele and Cathy a great amount of positive feedback, as they felt the information was presented in a very informative and engaging manner. Many have already committed to ordering and consuming Isagenix products for themselves. Quite a few also felt that the seminar was eye-opening and helped them to realize how much more they need to learn about proper nutrition and portion control. Every single attendee was excited to know that they have a rich fitness and nutrition resource in Michele available to them any time they have a question or step foot into the club.
