With Budget In Limbo, Avon Issues Tax Bill Alert
As the town struggles to pass a budget for 2024-25, Avon officials are telling folks to hold off on paying taxes until bills are out.

AVON, CT — The sound rejection of Avon's second town/school budget plan has the town's tax bill schedule in a holding pattern.
The Avon Collector of Revenue's Office Monday urged folks to refrain from paying the tax office until bills are mailed out after a budget is finally passed.
Voters last Friday shot down the town's budget with 686 "yes" votes to 1,745 "no" votes, with voter turnout at 18.6 percent.

Essentially, it was the same budget voters shot down earlier in May.
Because of the limbo status of the budget, tax bills still can't go out yet, officials said.

"Until a budget is adopted and a mill rate is set, property tax bills cannot be prepared, printed, and sent out to property owners," wrote the town's tax office.
With this time of year being the traditional time folks pay, town officials are asking taxpayers to wait on paying their taxes this year.
"Please do not send in payment for last year's billed amount as it is unlikely to be the same amount due and by law, the Collector of Revenue is unable to hold, accept, or process tax payments until a mill rate is set and a tax warrant is signed," wrote the town.
"Any checks received will be returned and not posted."
Town officials are already planning a third budget vote for later in the month.
The revenue collector's office said if it does pass, bills will be mailed out after July 1 with an Aug. 1 due date and a Sept. 3 deadline to pay without facing late fees.
In addition, tax bills will be available on the town's website about one week after the budget passes and the mill rate set.
"Taxpayers may visit the Town’s website to review their bills and make payments at that time," wrote the tax office.
"There is no need to wait to receive a hard copy of your bill in the mail."
