Cellist Tanya Anisimova and Pianist Pi-Hsun Shih To Perform At Avon Public Library, Sunday, April 3

There are few instrumental pairings more breathtakingly beautiful than that of the cello and the piano, and that is what is in store for the Avon Library audience April 3, when the Friends of the Library present the concluding program in the popular Sundays at Three series of concerts. Cellist/composer Tanya Anisimova and pianist
Pi-Hsun Shih will perform in a program featuring works by Beethoven and Schubert, as well as a recent composition by Ms. Ansimova.

Known professionally as the Farela Duo, the pair will appear in the library’s community room. The one-hour,
free-of-charge program begins at three o’clock.

The Washington Post has described Tanya Anisimova as a "highly focused artist" graced with
"spiritual authority" and "an easy mastery of her instrument.” International recognition came to her
upon the CD release of her cello arrangements of J.S. Bachʼs Complete Violin Sonatas and Partitas.
She holds graduate degrees from the Moscow Conservatory, Boston University and Yale. Ms.
Anisimova received First and Special Prizes at Concertino Prague International Competition and All-
USSR String Quartet Competition. She is a top prizewinner at First International Shostakovich
Competition in Russia and Min-On International Competition in Japan.

Described as a pianist of “searing precision” by the Hartford Courant, Pi-Hsun Shih enjoys a versatile
career as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and teacher. The Taiwanese-American musician has been a
featured soloist with the Sao Paulo State Symphony, The Hartt Symphony, and the Mexico State
Symphony Orchestra, for whom she served as the principal keyboardist. She has performed throughout
North America, South America, and Asia with ensembles such as Empire Brass and the Emerson
String Quartet. Ms. Shih appeared at the Avon Library last season in an electrifying performance with
violin virtuoso Sirena Huang.

Had it not been for the Internet the two artists may well have become musical ships in the night,
forever parted following the days when they practiced and performed together as students in Boston. A
moment of curiosity fueled by fond memories prompted Ms. Shih to search for, then contact Ms.
Anisimova. Though many years had intervened, theirs was a reunion that made clear that they were
fated to perform together again. They discovered unmistakable electricity in their music making
generated by an abundance of inspiration received from one another. The Avon Library audience will
discover that the talented duo has the power to move their listeners, a power that comes from their
sheer enjoyment of performing.

The Avon Free Public Library is located at 281 Country Club Road. Seating is on a first-come, firstserved
basis and is available beginning at 2:30. The Friends of the Library will be serving light
refreshments following the performance.
