Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance Charity Golf Tournament Comes to Avon

Play for the Cause at the 9th Annual Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance Golf Tournament on Monday, June 27th at the Golf Club of Avon.

AVON, CT. The Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance, Inc. (CTBTA) presents its 9th annual golf tournament on Monday, June 27 at the Golf Club of Avon, with NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Bob Maxon to serve as emcee at the dinner reception.

The tournament supports Patient Assistance Funds at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Yale Brain Tumor Center, and St. Vincent's Medical Center to help brain tumor patients and families in need and a nurse navigator program to help families navigate through treatment. The tournament also funds brain tumor research for better treatments and progress toward a cure for brain tumor illnesses.

Tournament Chairperson this year is Bill Shipman of Simsbury, a 38 year brain tumor survivor. "I know from personal experience that resources, information and support are limited for brain tumor patients, survivors and their families. That is why I am passionate about the CTBTA and working to raise awareness and much needed funding for this important cause."

Shipman said he hopes to be part of another sell-out year. The tournament is open to a field of 200 golfers. "We hope to see a spectacular turnout at this great event," he said. The CTBTA is also seeking auction item donations. "The auction can help raise even more funds for the cause."

Nearly 23,000 adults and almost 5,000 children are expected to be diagnosed with primary cancerous tumors of the brain and spinal cord this year in the United States alone. Further, more than 700,000 people in the US are currently living with a primary brain and central nervous system tumor, many of them in Connecticut, Shipman said.
