Connecticut Students Writers Magazine Honors Six Talcott Mountain Academy Students

Eighth grader from Avon to be published; five students in grades 6-8 receive honorable mentions in juried competition.

March 20, 2017 (Avon, CT) — Six students from Talcott Mountain Academy (TMA) were selected from more than 1,500 submissions to be recognized in the 2017 Connecticut Student Writers (CSW) Magazine.
Eighth grader Aresh Pourkavoos, Avon, CT, will have his non-fiction piece, Time, published in the magazine. Five other Talcott Mountain Academy students will receive honorable mentions in the publication.

All newly published authors will be honored on May 11, 2017 at Recognition Night, which will be held at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Connecticut, Storrs.

“We’re very proud of Aresh and all of the TMA honorees who were selected for CSW Magazine,” said Lydia Gibb, Dean, Talcott Mountain Academy. “Although Talcott Mountain Academy is often recognized for excellence in science and technology, our students commitment to language arts reflects the importance we place on a well-rounded education.”

Sponsored by Connecticut Writing Project (CWP), Connecticut Student Writers was established in 1987 to honor excellence in writing by students. The magazine published selected original works—poetry or prose—from students in grades kindergarten through high school. This year’s honorees represented approximately 400 different teachers from 200 different schools throughout Connecticut.

Talcott Mountain Academy is an independent school for intellectually excited students K-8. Founded in 1983 as a division of the Talcott Mountain Science Center, the Academy is a unique on-site learning laboratory that nurtures children’s innate abilities from an early age.
