Encaustic Painting Workshop

Encaustic Painting is concidered  one of the most ancient art forms in the world.  Encaustic paint is made of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment, and is applied in a molten state.  Each layer is reheated to fuse it to the layer beneath.  Beeswax is both a sealant and a preservative, so various materials can be collaged into the work. Students will be working with pigmented bees wax on wood panels.  A variety of techniques will be demonstrated and explored.  Although collage materials will be provided, students may wish to bring photocopied images to incorporate into their art.
