Our bodies: They astound and confound us, and our relationship with our physical frame is always a source of speculation and conversation. Four New England women artists examine the human form in dialogue-provoking ways at Avon, Connecticut's Farmington Valley Arts Center (FVAC), where "Now Showing," an exhibition of works in diverse media, opens Saturday, June 9.
At the show's unveiling, open to the public on June 9 from 6 to 8 p.m., artists Melanie Carr, Deb Wadsworth, Jenny Walker and Heather Whitehouse will be on hand to greet visitors and to discuss the inspiration behind pieces that explore the range of the human form. The show, which runs Wednesday through Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. through July 14, focuses on masking, contorting and distorting the physical, while also celebrating the ways in which our bodies define who we are. Admission to the exhibition and opening reception is free.
Featured works, which range from paintings to headpieces, are for sale, and purchases support this non-profit cultural center, which provides arts-related programs and opportunities for thousands in Connecticut each year.
