Free Piano Concert at the Avon Public Library

Pianist Paul Bisaccia Performs a Special Program: "Great American Composers – Gershwin's "An American in Paris", on Sunday, January 24.

On Sunday, January 24, The Friends of the Avon Library will present a not-to-be missed performance by pianist/raconteur Paul Bissacia, the second program of the library’s popular winter concert series, Sundays at Three.

This marks a return visit to the library by the popular favorite whose consummate musicianship and engaging personality never fail to please. Paul will be performing a program of selections that span 100 years of great American music, some of it familiar, some not so. In the more-than-capable hands of this talented artist, all will sparkle.

The audience will be treated to a generous helping of George Gershwin standards-a trademark of Bissacia’s- and, in celebration of the new Tony award winning Broadway musical hit, Paul’s exciting new transcription of An American in Paris. Also on tap, the music of such immortals as Richard Rodgers, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, John Philip Sousa and two pieces by the great Scott Joplin, including a rarely performed but delightful waltz. (Paul bets you’ve never heard a Joplin waltz before!)
Paul Bisaccia made his European debut at age 17 and has performed concerts on four continents. He graduated summa cum laude and first in his class from the Hartt School. His vast repertoire includes the great piano classics, and he was the first artist to record the complete solo piano music of Gershwin. His PBS television show, Gershwin by Bisaccia, has been seen by millions and was dubbed into Mandarin Chinese for broadcast in Asia. He is a prolific and versatile recording artist with a discography of over 350 individual compositions covering a wide range of composers.
