Local author to discuss Norway and the Holocaust, Thursday, May 26 at the Avon Public Library
Irene Levin Berman will talk about her latest book, "Norway Wasn't Too Small: A Fact-Based Novel about Darkness and Survival"

On Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 7:00 pm, Irene Levin Berman will discuss her latest book, Norway Wasn’t Too Small: A Fact-Based Novel about Darkness and Survival at the Avon Public Library.
Irene Berman was born just before the Nazi invasion of Norway in 1940. She was one of 1,200 Norwegian Jews who avoided annihilation by escaping to neutral Sweden. Close to 800 of the remaining Jews were deported to Auschwitz, including 7 members of her father’s immediate family. The author has also written “We Are Going to Pick Potatoes”: Norway and the Holocaust, the Untold Story, a remembrance of growing up Jewish in Norway. Irene has spoken nationally and internationally, sharing her experiences and the little-known story of the Norwegian Jews.
Introductory remarks will be made by Estelle Kafer, Executive Director of the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford. The talk will be followed by a book signing & reception for the author.
