Mug Swap At Avon Library Promises Unique Experience

Fall is hot beverage season and Avon's library is bringing folks a free chance to unload unwanted mugs for new ones.

AVON, CT — You've heard of cookie swaps, where folks bring in home-made cookies and exchange them with others.

And, of course, there are plant swaps, seed swaps and auto parts swap meets.

Well, the Avon Free Public Library is adding to the tradition of bartering with a new type of swap event — the mug swap.

With fall here and the temperatures (supposedly) cooling down a bit, folks are breaking out the tea, pumpkin-flavored coffee and hot apple cider.

But they might be sick and tired of the same old mug with which to sip.

This is where the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road, Avon, steps in.

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the library is hosting its Fall Mug Swap from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library's community room.

The premise is simple: bring a clean mug, take a clean mug.

More importantly, folks of all ages can see some of the quirky, silly mugs many of us have in our hot beverage containment system arsenal.

"Forget about sweater weather - it's mug season! Have too many mugs? Need to add a cozy new mug to your collection? Join us for a Fall Mug Swap," wrote the library.

The unique event provides people with an avenue to unload those back-of-the-kitchen cabinet mugs that, perhaps, don't get used.

Or, maybe, it offers a means for people to unload those tacky gifts that often come with a bizarre message in addition to a means to contain hot fluids.

Either way, a trip to the mug swap just might be in the offing.
