Shopping Bag Exhibit In Avon More Than 'Paper Or Plastic'
The Avon Free Public Library is hosting a special exhibit on the art of shopping bags, courtesy of the Avon Historical Society.
AVON, CT — The Avon Free Public Library and Avon Historical Society has a special exhibit on an everyday item that is, only now, being seen as art as opposed to simply being a transport tool.
That item is the modern shopping bag used to transport goods from the store to the customer's homes.
The library, at 281 Country Club Road, Avon, is showcasing the collection of Jim and Joyce Baldwin, whose plethora of shoppings catch the eye and fill minds with color.

We are definitely not talking about "paper or plastic."
The bag display from various stores is "now considered portable graphic art" and it is on display in the library's "History Corner" in the Marian Hunter History Room through October.

"When is a shopping bag not a shopping bag?" reads a library announcement. "When it is celebrated as a work of art, saluting the role of graphic design in our everyday lives."
The library said shopping bags were, even, on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Design.
