BERLIN, CT — With students returning to classrooms this week, Berlin police are reminding motorists to watch for school buses and pedestrians and to allow additional time for their morning and afternoon commutes.
The Berlin Police Department issued the back-to-school safety reminder as the new school year gets underway.
Berlin schools open for the new year on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Police said the return of school buses to local roads could result in longer travel times and encouraged motorists to plan accordingly.
Drivers should obey school bus stop signals and remain particularly alert for pedestrians in and around school zones, according to the department.
The department urged motorists to help make the beginning of the school year safe for students, families and school staff.
"Let's make this a safe and successful school year," police said.
