Berlin FD Spends Day Chasing Gas Leaks

The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Tuesday went to four separate natural gas incidents in town.

BERLIN, CT β€” Local firefighters spent much of the day Tuesday tending to various incidents around town that dealt with leaking natural gas.

According to the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday, the BVFD tended to four separate incidents in town regarding natural gas.

They were as follows:

β€’ 9:28 a.m. Old Brickyard Lane β€” An ongoing issue with the service was isolated and turned over to the gas company.

β€’ 9:50 a.m. Commerce Street β€” A branch line was struck by a forklift inside the building. The service was shutdown and the building was ventilated.

β€’ 10:56 a.m. Whispering Brook Drive β€” A line was struck by a construction crew. Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period providing a hose line and metering adjacent structures.

β€’ 12:04 p.m. Kensington Road β€” BVFD investigated an odor of gas inside the library. The odor was determined to be caused by the Whispering Brook incident. The building was metered and no action was required.

As the BVFD scrambled from gas incident to gas incident, the Newington Volunteer Fire Department assisted Berlin with mutal aid coverage.
