Berlin High School Briefly Placed in Soft Lockdown Mode: UPDATED
A medical emergency prompted the lockdown, which the principal said is common practice in such situations.

BERLIN, CT β Berlin High School was placed in "soft lockdown" mode briefly Tuesday morning due to a medical emergency at the school.
Principal Fran Kennedy sent a letter to parents and guardians late Tuesday morning, which stated:
Dear Parent or Guardian,
At approximately 9:30 this morning, we chose to enter lockdown, due to a student health issue. Upon assessing the situation further, we converted this to a βsecure school lock out,β which is sometimes referred to as a soft lockdown. The individual who needed medical attention is going to be fine and the school was never in any danger. As we always do with medical situations at BHS, we use a secure school lock out to ensure that there is no hallway traffic and that passing time does not occur, while medical professionals attend to the individual in need. I just wanted to let you know that all students and staff are safe and that, at Berlin High School and in Berlin Public Schools, the safety of all students, staff, and visitors is paramount.
