Berlin Hires New Police Chief
The new chief will replace John Klett, who retired this summer.
BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Police Commission has selected Matthew McNally as the new police chief. He will replace John Klett, who retired July 30.
McNally, a former marine, brings "an extensive and diverse background in law enforcement to his new job," according to a statement from the Berlin Police Commission. With the Danbury department, McNally worked with youth programs and juvenile justice issues and ran the Community Affairs and Crime Scene Investigation units.
He was responsible for leading five sergeants and 40 patrol officers.

The police commission's search included two internal candidates seven external candidates.
McNally will start in the new job Nov. 1.
