Berlin Police Overhaul Communications System
The old system was 34 years old and it was time to make a change.

BERLIN, CT - The police department replaced equipment from 1984 with an entirely new digital communications system last month. The new equipment provides many advantages including better transmission coverage for officers, more operating frequencies and encryption capability for sensitive and confidential investigation information.
The old system "had served us well, but over the course of thirty-four years became outdated, started to fail, and was no longer supported by the manufacturer," Deputy Chief Chris Ciuci said in a statement.
The switch to digital also allows the department to better work with other departments and ensure the system will survive in the future.
