Berlin Police Sergeant Tops In Quarter

BERLIN, CT β€” Local police this week announced that one of its sergeants has been chosen as the department's "Best Program Employee of the Quarter."

The Berlin Police Department Monday named Sgt. Tyler Cyr with that honor.

"The BEST program began in January of 2021. It is employee recognition program primarily based on a peer submission process," wrote the Berlin PD in a statement. "This new program was designed to increase the amount of recognition our employees receive for outstanding work and performance, to reward employees who demonstrate leadership, and to highlight the 'BEST' our department has to offer."

Names as the top employee of the second quarter, which was from April through June, Cyr has been with the department for seven years.

Cyr is a member of the department's ATV unit and its crisis intervention team, is a field training officer and is the leader of the BPD's underwater response/dive team.

During the quarter, Cyr, police said, was nominated for:

β€’ Organizing and planning the Berlin Police Department Awards Ceremony for 2022 June 16.

β€’ Cyr and another officer were recognized for an act of kindness they showed towards a victim of sexual assault.

According to the department, the victim's car was recovered from the offender and did not have enough gas to get back home to New York State.

The victim only had $1 in their bank account, but Cyr and the other officer used their own money to have the victim's gas tank filled up.

β€’ Cyr coaches and mentors less experienced officers assigned to his shift.
