This initial phase aims to inform the community before formal enforcement begins.

Beginning May 1, animal control officers will start issuing written infractions for violations of the leash ordinance.

The fine for a first violation of this ordinance is $100.

This process is consistent with how other infractions, such as failure to vaccinate or roaming, are handled.

When an infraction is issued, the dog owner will receive a copy.

Another copy of the infraction will be sent to the New Britain Superior Court.

This procedure ensures proper documentation and adherence to legal protocols for municipal ordinance violations.

The town encourages all dog owners to review the ordinance and ensure their pets are leashed when in public spaces.

Adhering to the ordinance helps maintain public safety and compliance with town regulations.
