Berlin Schools' First Day Features A Lot Of 'New'

Local schools on Thursday unveiled myriad changes at one elementary school, with a new group of pupils now utilizing Berlin High School.

BERLIN, CT — Berlin public schools started their school year Thursday, Aug. 28, and as school officials pointed out, there was a lot of "new" during the first day, especially at one site.

Specifically, two of its schools are enjoying a "refreshed look," and the first day was the first time many students and staff saw myriad changes there, from new playgrounds, courtyards, and even improved bathrooms.

Benefitting most was Willard Elementary School, 1088 Norton Road, Berlin, with Berlin High School also seeing a new feature, though it won't benefit high school students.

"The Town of Berlin welcomed students, teachers, and staff back to school today with a refreshed look," wrote Berlin Public Schools.

"Throughout the summer, town employees worked hard to help make this school year the best one yet."

School officials thanked those who worked on the projects.

"Many thanks to Berlin Public Works, Parks & Grounds, and Facilities for ensuring these projects were successfully completed," wrote the school system.

Among the improvements:

• A new upper playground at Willard School.

• A new lower playground at Willard School.

• Renovated restrooms and plumbing upgrades at Willard School.

• Parking lot improvements at Willard School.

• A new courtyard at Willard School.

• Berlin High School is now the home to the school system's Pre-K program, and this year, it has a new outdoor play area for the district's youngest children outside BHS.
