No Free Lunch In Berlin Schools Anymore
Pandemic-era grant funding has run out, requiring Berlin school cafeterias to go to pre-pandemic operations.
BERLIN, CT — Like all Connecticut school districts, Berlin schools are transitioning from free meals for all pupils to the pre-pandemic normal of charging for them.
While some towns have already transitioned, Berlin's meals are still free this week, but that will change when student return from the holiday break Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Berlin schools have already issued notices to parents, saying pandemic-era grant funding has run out and cafeteria operations are back to pre-pandemic norms.

To ensure free and reduced-price eligibility for Jan. 3, 2023, applications were due to the food services department by Dec. 19, but the sooner they're submitted, the earlier eligibility can be determined.
Anyone with questions regarding free and reduced price eligibility or the district's new meal charging policy, contact Wendy Rawlings, food service director, at wrawlings@berlinschools.org.
