Dress Right For Your Body Type!
No more baggy pants and short skirts! Is America spoiling her image?

I always wonder why people wear clothes that don’t fit them. Don’t they notice it before walking out the door? Perhaps the rest of the world isn’t as self conscious as I am, or even a tad bit. The other day I was sitting in my French literature class when a girl walked in wearing a see through shirt. See through shirts should only be worn by Irina Shayk and Gisele. Maybe Tyra on a good day, but absolutely not on her.
This prompted me to think about how people typically dress in America. Don’t you ever wonder what people in the rest of the world think of our style? Americans judge the rest of the world like its our job, so of course they are all going to judge us back. We tend to think of London as having this crazy avant garde style, and France is also known for their…interesting choice of clothes. So what is the US known for? I bet you baggy pants and ripped t-shirts with stained timberlands and dirty socks. Seriously, have you looked around?
It’s funny…in other countries people always dress up to go out. In my homeland of Armenia you would have to wear heels to take out the trash. No one would be caught dead with pajama bottoms on outside. Same in most of Europe, everyone would look at you funny if you stepped out in something trashy. Especially the women, but that’s a different conversation.

Should Americans pay more attention to what they wear? I’m almost afraid to ask this question because I know I will be back lashed with “we don’t care what people here think of us!” Understandable, but we should all subconsciously care about what others think about us in regards to our appearance. Individual style is possible and absolutely attainable without looking trashy or ghetto. Where is the line drawn? After all, clothing is the first impression one gives off to the rest of the world. I’m not suggesting all of us wear tailored clothes wherever we go, as I am known for wearing unusual outfits on a somewhat regular basis, but we can certainly upgrade our appearance. America needs a makeover.
Why should we even care, though? We were all taught from a young age to not judge a book by its cover, even though it’s human nature to. Since proper attire is usually associated with high class, should Americans present themselves better for the rest of the world? I think so, and I think we need to start evaluating how we look when we walk out the door. Not just for the sake of the world, but for your sake as well. You might not realize it, but people notice if you wear a shirt that doesn’t entirely cover your beer belly or pants that hang low to your mid thigh. Sometimes I have the urge to run up to you and pull them down and run away again.

I believe it was in France that they just banned baggy pants. How stupid of the government to do such a thing. We don’t need to go to such measures to prevent this behavior (hopefully) as I normally would not condone any king of government intrusion, but I think France might be on to something. It just looks unprofessional, and is it even comfortable to have your pants sagging that low?
In response to this, I wrote an article for you folks who do not know how to dress yourselves. The first step to recovery is admitting it, so admit that you look trashy and fix it. Seriously, I don’t want to see any more hicks walking around Berlin! Same goes for other parts of America, although I doubt anyone outside of Berlin reads this.
