Berlin Library Warns Of Service Changes Starting This Week

Berlin-Peck Memorial Library will transition to a new computer system with temporary service changes through June 3.

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library is preparing to launch a new computer system in early June, with officials warning patrons to expect temporary service limitations during the transition period.

Library officials said the upgrade will affect some catalog and account services between May 26 and June 3, while most digital resources are expected to remain available.

According to the library, located at 232 Kensington Road, patrons will not be able to log into their accounts or place holds online during that period because the existing online catalog will operate in a limited capacity.

Officials also warned that catalog search results may be inaccurate during the transition and encouraged residents to call ahead before visiting to confirm item availability.

The library said patrons checking out materials from May 26 through June 3 must present a physical library card or an image of the card.

Staff members will not be able to look up accounts by name, and driver’s licenses will not be accepted during the transition.

Officials also announced temporary restrictions on hold pickups.

Through June 3, patrons may only place holds for pickup at the library that owns the item.

The new library app is expected to launch in early June, and the new catalog system is scheduled to go live on June 3.

Library officials said digital services, including Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, museum passes, public computers, and printing services, are not expected to experience major disruptions, though brief interruptions are possible during the switchover.

The library also advised Libby users that reading history could potentially be lost during the migration. Patrons wishing to preserve their history were encouraged to manually save it before June 3.

Library staff said additional information is available through the library’s website or by contacting the circulation desk.
