Staff and residents hung their lanterns for a Chinese New Year celebration on Monday, February 3rd at Middlewoods of Newington Assisted Living Community. After exploring Chinese culture and studying “The Year of the Horse,” the community agreed to throw their own party in recognition of the traditional Chinese New Year customs. With fried rice and vegetable egg rolls on the menu, residents enjoyed lunch with an international flair. For dessert, staff and residents prepared sweet filled wontons with Nutella, mascarpone, blueberries, bananas, strawberries and a dash of vanilla, cinnamon, and confectioner’s sugar before deep frying them for a special treat. The celebration also included a display of resident arts and crafts, inspired by “The Year of the Horse,” along with a lantern festival, music, dance, and of course, some friendly fortunes! Fortunes were read aloud, one by one, sharing, humor, words of “wisdom” and good sense with all.
