We have a little bit of paradise here in Berlin, Connecticut: Cigar World at 126 Mill Street. You won't find a better selection of cigars anywhere. It's a great cigar shop, with a wide selection of premium rolled tobacco, and a top notch staff.
And the best part of Cigar World is not only can you buy your cigars there, but you can sit down, smoke them, watch a baseball or football game, or just chat with all the other cigar afficionados who visit its lounges. And if you love dogs like me, it even has a Bermese Mountain Dog--appropriately named Smokey--for you to pet or trip over, as I sometimes do.
The owner of Cigar World is Jay. Being a lover of Connecticut tobacco, I have been smoking Muniemaker cigars for decades; however, Jay invariably will tempt me to elevate my taste in cigars, offering me exotic leaves and blends from Brazil, Cameroon, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Canary Islands.
For instance, having run out of Muniemakers this evening I ran down to Cigar World at 10 PM. Cigar World was still open and, as usual, was filled with lovers of aromatic cigars watching a baseball game or sitting out back at one of the tables, enjoying the last evenings of summer.
Jay was there and greeted me warmly at the door, tempting me with a premium cigar to be unfaithful to my Muniemakers: a Perdomo cigar, no less. I lit it, puffed, and I was in heaven. Wow, what a great tasting cigar! I am still enjoying it as I write this blog entry.
Like a patient mentor, Jay has been trying to elevate my taste in cigars for some time, offering me countless tobaccos from various far off lands. The last time I went in to buy my Muniemakers, he offered me a H. Upmann cigar. a fuller-bodied smoke made of a robust Ecuadorian Cubano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Dominican filler tobaccos. He is a maestro determined to ween me from Muniemakers.
And you know what? He's succeeding. I am about to cheat on my Muniemakers after all of these years of being faithful. I must confess I don't even feel guilty. I deserve a premium cigar. Doesn't everybody?
If you, like me and many others, need to get away from it all after work, or some evening, or weekend, and want to enjoy watching a football game with a premium cigar, go to Cigar World. It's the best cigar parlor I know of, and the best part of it all, it's right here in Berlin.
