Diminishing Attendance Prompts Merger of Berlin Churches

BERLIN, CT — Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Berlin will soon be merging with the much larger St. Paul Catholic Church, according to the Berlin Citizen.

Diminishing attendance at Sacred Heart prompted a decision by the Archdiocese of Hartford to consolidate it with St. Paul. Statewide, about 200 churches are in similar predicaments.

The transition began last year with the movement of Sacred Heart's religious education program to St. Paul.
