Dog Obedience Classes Offered by Berlin Parks & Recreation Department
Have a new puppy? Does it need training? The Berlin Parks & Rec Dept. is offering classes obedience classes.

The Berlin Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for residents now and non-residents . Registration forms can be obtained on the town’s website to mail in or to register in person.
Dog obedience classes offered include kindergarten puppy training on Thursdays, starting Sept. 4 through Oct. 16, for seven weeks from 6 to 7 p.m. The first class is without the dogs and is mandatory unless you are excused by the instructor. A max of 12 students per class. The class is for puppies aged two-and-a-half months to six-months-old.
Basic Dog Obedience will be held on Tuesdays. Session one will run from Sept. 2 through Oct. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. for seven weeks. There is a max of 12 students. The second session will run from Tuesday, Oct. 28 to Dec. 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. for seven weeks. There is a max of 10 students. Dogs should be at least 6 months old. The first class is without the dog and is mandatory unless you are excused by the instructor.

Intermediate Dog Obedience for dogs and handlers that have completed the basic class and better basic. The class is held Wednesdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. for five weeks. There is a maximum of 12 students.
Better Basic Dog Obedience is a class for dogs and handlers that have completed the basic class. Emphasis will be on improving the skills learned in basic class. The class is held on Wednesdays, Oct. 29, to Dec. 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. for six weeks, with a max of 10 students. (No class on Nov. 26.)

All classes held at the former Pistol Creek Golf Course, 600 Spruce Brook Road, Berlin. Dog handlers should be at least 16 years old. A copy of the dog’s vaccinations if not already on file, must be brought to the first class. There is a fee for residents and non-residents.

Instructors for the classes are Wendy McGurgan, professional dog trainer and assistant trainer Shirley Coulombe.
