In 1997, in a building with a 100 year history in Berlin, Luciano Lastrina opened Kensington Market at 1014 Farmington Avenue. His dream was to operate a food business where customers would be greeted with smiles and made to feel comfortable. Within three years, business increased and expanded. Lastrina realized he had to get a partner. Sebastian Scalora became half of the team that has made Kensington Market one of the most pleasant places to shop in Berlin.

Focusing on the idea of simplicity, Lastrina and Scalora have much to offer at Kensington Market. Featuring a wide assortment of meats, cheeses, and groceries, shoppers can pretty much find everything needed in the kitchen.

There is a large selection of fresh vegetables, fruits, imported sausage and cheeses, and many types of salads. The market carries sliced meats, such as prosciutto, salami, and pepperoni. Chicken, sirloin steak, pork and Italian sausage may be found in the meat cases. One can find deli items - fresh mozzarella, olive salad, artichoke hearts, and tortellini salad - to name only a few. Kensington Market also offers a selection of cakes, canolli, mini pastries and more, from Mozzicato & DiPasquale Bakers.

Lunch can be ordered by phone, on-line, or fax. Click on Kensington Market’s website and place your order on-line. Featured lunch items are available on the website daily. One may find grinders, wraps, pasta dishes, as well as daily specials. Dishes such as lasagna, eggplant rolatini, eggplant parmigiana, and sausage & broccoli, are prepared daily, along with salads such as tortellini, macaroni and tricolor pasta salad.

Catering is a specialty at Kensington Market. If you’re planning a wedding, bridal shower, or baby shower, for example, give Kensington Market a call and let them see to the food for your event. They will set everything up for you, as well as take everything down when the event is over.

For a look at some of Kensington Market’s catered events, go to their website and click on catering. From roast dishes such as boneless prime rib to choices of sauces like marinara, puttanesca or bolognese or giant grinders and salads, the list of dishes available for catered events is extensive.
