Now It Is Safe To Ice Skate In Berlin: Town

The Town of Berlin Thursday, Jan. 30, said it was OK to skate on area ponds/lakes, one day after banning the pastime due to safety concerns.

BERLIN, CT — One day after saying it was unsafe to skate on local ponds/lakes, Berlin officials Thursday said it is now OK to skate on area ponds and lakes.

The Town of Berlin said ice skating is allowed at town recreation facilities.

As a result, skating is now allowed at Paper Goods Pond Park on Hart/Harris Streets; Willard Pond on Norton Road; Hubbard School Pond on Grove Street; and Sage Park on the Berlin Turnpike.

Berlin officials said the town follows the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection ice safety guidelines when it comes to skating at town ponds.

Wednesday, Berlin said it wasn't safe to skate and it was not allowed.
