The Stink Is Back: Berlin, State Investigating Renewed Odor Complaints
Berlin and state environmental officials are investigating renewed odor reports linked to the Bright Feeds facility.
BERLIN, CT — Berlin officials said they are working with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection following renewed reports of an odor coming from the Bright Feeds facility.
The town said DEEP confirmed the presence of an odor during a follow-up inspection and contacted Bright Feeds about the issue.
According to the town, Bright Feeds subsequently determined that a setting had been modified during a recent equipment calibration.

After being notified of the problem, the company restored the previous settings and believes the adjustment will resolve the odor issue, town officials said.
Bright Feeds has told DEEP and Berlin officials that it will continue monitoring the facility to determine whether the problem has been resolved.

The town said it will also remain in contact with DEEP and Bright Feeds as needed.
Berlin officials thanked state legislators for their attention to the matter and DEEP and Bright Feeds for their response and cooperation.
