Two Teens Try To Steal Car At Berlin School Parking Lot: Police

A 13-year-old suspect and a 15-year-old suspect were taken to juvenile detention centers after trying to steal a car Wednesday morning.

BERLIN, CT — Two juvenile teenagers have been charged with trying to steal a car from the parking lot of a Berlin elementary school Wednesday morning.

The Berlin Police Department said, at about 9 a.m., officers received a call from security officers at Berlin's Richard H. Hubbard Elementary School, 139 Grove St., East Berlin, that two individuals were seen trying to steal a car from the parking lot there.

"A description of the suspects, as well as a last known direction of travel was given," the BPD said in a release Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they were able to locate a 13-year-old suspect and a 15-year-old suspect, who were seen walking on nearby Savage Hill Road.

Police did not identify the suspects because of their age, but both have been charged.

According to the BPD, the 15-year-old was charged with attempted larceny of a motor vehicle; third-degree criminal mischief; possession of burglar tools; and first-degree criminal trover.

The 15-year-old male non-resident of Berlin was taken by authorities to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Facility.

Meanwhile, the BPD said the 13-year-old male non-resident of Berlin was charged with attempted larceny of a motor vehicle; third-degree criminal mischief; and possession of marijuana for someone under 18.

He was taken to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Facility, police said.
