Uncle D's Diner Celebrates 1 Year in East Berlin

The diner serves up heaping portions of comfort food and special creations daily.

Uncle D’s Diner, the former Route 72 Diner, recently celebrated its first anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Also formerly known as The Hometown Grille, Uncle D’s is owned by Darren and Kathy Anderson of East Berlin and Darren’s sister Doreen.

The name Uncle D’s pays honor to the family’s Uncle Darren who has a long history of cooking for others β€” including his nieces and nephews.

Darren Andersonβ€˜s love of cooking can be traced to his roots where his father owned and operated the Blue Plate restaurant in Plainville. His passion has always been to open a restaurant where he could offer his unique recipes such as Cadillac tacos, wings or corned beef hash, combined with comfort foods using the best ingredients at a fair price.

That dream came true in October 2013 and one year later Uncle D’s Diner, located at 869 Mill St. in East Berlin has established itself as a β€˜go-to’ destination for area residents with an appetite for tasty, heaping portions at a more than reasonable price.

Darren Anderson said, β€œMy family has worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life. From my daughter Kelsie to my sons Jordan and Taylor, to my wife Kathy, sister Doreen as well as the best staff and customers who I consider part of my family β€” allowing Uncle D’s Diner to be your eatery of choice is an honor and privilege.”

He added, β€œWe welcome every customer as if they were part of our family and once you’ve tasted our food and felt the warmth of our friendship, we know we’ll see you again.”

Hours: 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily.
