WEATHER UPDATE: 'Significant,' Long Duration Snowstorm to Hit Berlin

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning late tonight through late Monday.

There is the potential for 8-12 inches of snow accumulation and a trace amount of ice.

The National Weather Service predicts that scattered light snow showers and flurries will develop through late afternoon and the snow will become steadier after midnight.

Periods of snow will be moderate to heavy on Sunday, Sunday night, Monday, and Monday night, the weather service states. This will be a long duration winter storm event and driving will be hazardous during this time period. Winds could also gust up to 40 miles per hour.

Tonight Snow likely, mainly after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 24. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Sunday Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 5pm. High near 31. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Sunday Night Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 7pm. Low around 21. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Monday Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 29. Northeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Monday Night A chance of snow, mainly before 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
