Greenwood Avenue Fire Contained, Cause Still Under Investigation
Fire at third floor of 225 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel.

On Friday afternoon, a fire broke out on the third floor of a home/office structure at 225 Greenwood Ave., near Grand Street, in Bethel around 1:30 p.m.
The Stony Hill Fire Department and Bethel Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene along with the Dodgingtown Fire Company, Newtown Fire Department, Danbury Fire Department, Mill Plain Volunteer Fire Department of Danbury and West Redding Fire Company.

The Bethel Police assisted firefighters by blocking off Greenwood Avenue from the Dolan Plaza to the Church of Bethel area.
Most of the damage is visible on the west side of the structure, where the fire left a large hole on the roof. The fire was contained around 3 p.m.

Steve Polizzi, owner of the building and the businesses inside (Rural Water Company and Polizzi Tax Service) confirmed that the house also held a a tenant on the second floor and two tenants on the third floor.
Capt. Robert Cedergren of the Bethel Police confirmed that there were no serious injuries.
"I was working when one of my tenants came downstairs to tell me about the fire," Polizzi said. "...By the time we got upstairs with the fire extinguisher, the fire had gone up the wall of the house."
Polizzi said the fire may have been started by a smoldering cigarette by the fire escape. This has yet to be confirmed by fire officials.
