Bank Teller from Bethel Charged with Stealing Nearly $80k From Customers' Accounts: Report

The teller is accused of stealing $71,000 from one account and $6,500 from another.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Charged with taking nearly $80,000, a teller from the Brookfield branch of the Savings Bank of Danbury was arrested last week for allegedly stealing from customers' accounts, reports the News Times.

Metita Demiri of Bethel was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 25, on multiple charges in connection with the allegations. Demiri is accused of stealing $71,000 from one customer's account and $6,500 from another.

Bank officials told the News Times that it was an isolated incident and that no other customer accounts had been affected. Police said the transactions occurred between July 2014 and October 2015.
