Bethel Building Committee to Discuss Elementary School Budgets

The Rockwell build is about $1 million over budget, but the Johnson project is about 1.7 million under.

BETHEL, CT — The building committee will meet Tuesday in an effort to reconcile the budget issues surrounding the renovations to Rockwell and Johnson elementary schools, the News Times is reporting.

Rockwell is about $1 million over budget, due to environmental issues, including PCBs which must be abated. Johnson is about 1.7 million under budget, placing the overall project under the $65.8 million approved by voters in 2017.

The town needs to decide whether it can reassign money from the Johnson project to Rockwell, or whether to draw down money from the contingency fund.
