Bethel Crematorium Builder Not Ready To Throw In The Shovel

The Planning and Zoning Commission had rejected the plan to open the facility back in 2015, and was sued.

BETHEL, CT — The local business owner whose plans to open a crematorium in Clarke Business Park were nixed by the Planning and Zoning Commission, is looking to fight the ruling in court.

The News Times is reporting that B. Shawn McLoughlin filed an appeal on Wednesday of a decision that prevented the crematorium from being built.

The Planning and Zoning Commission had rejected the plan to open the facility based in part upon nearby business owners' perceptions that the new business would drive down the value of their property. McLoughlin, who owns the concrete business Mono-Crete Step which would be adjacent to the crematory, sued in 2015. Last fall, a Superior Court Judge ruled that the commission was within its rights to reject McLoughlin's proposal.
