Plans for Crematorium Now Dead in Bethel
Some local business owners believed that the new business would drive down the value of their property.
BETHEL, CT — A proposal to put a crematorium in Clarke Business Park may have finally given up the ghost, the News Times is reporting.
The Planning and Zoning Commission had rejected the plan to open the facility based in part upon nearby business owners' perceptions that the new business would drive down the value of their property.
The applicant, B. Shawn McLoughlin, who owns the concrete business Mono-Crete Step which would have been adjacent to the crematory, filed an appeal in 2015. On Thursday, Judge Marshall Berger dismissed that appeal.
