Bethel Firefighters Battle Three Small Fires This Week
Fire Marshal Tom Galliford also reiterates the importance of working smoke alarms and calling 911 as soon as possible when discovering a fire.

The Bethel and Stony Hill Fire Depts were busy this week with several small fires.
On Sunday afternoon units were sent to 81 Dodgingtown Road for a deck fire. The fire was contained to a rear wood deck. The fire was caused by improper disposal of charcoal from a grill.
On Wednesday morning the Bethel Fire Department responded to an electrical fire on Mountain Orchard Road. Upon arrival, crews found a small fire in the ceiling of a laundry room. The fire was mostly extinguished by the homeowner who was alerted by working smoke detectors. Firefighters removed the burned materials and disconnected the electrical power to the house. This fire appears to have been the result of overheated wiring.

And on Thursday, both Bethel and Stony Hill Fire Departments were sent to 4 Oxford St. at around 5 p.m., during an intense thunderstorm for a house fire. Upon arrival, crews found a fire in the kitchen and quickly brought the fire under control. The cause of this fire was from unattended cooking on the stove.
Both departments continued to respond throughout town for several other incidents last evening including trees down on a propane tank, an electrical transformer fire, a tree possibly on a house, and an automatic fire alarm.
