BETHEL, CT — Bethel High School students were dismissed early on their first day back from winter break due to a gas smell in the school, the News Times is reporting.

The source of the odor turned was a valve leak on a rooftop HVAC.

School officials pulled the fire alarm at 7:30 a.m. when the odor was first detected. The fire department responded, and students were evacuated to Bethel Middle School and Berry Elementary School while the high school was ventilated.

Officials told the News Times that it was unlikely that students will need to make up the school day, since they technically came into school.
