Bethel High School Turf Project Put on Hold: Report

Bethel High School is the only school in the Southwest Conference of the CIAC without access to turf.

BETHEL, CT — Bethel High School athletes may have to wait a bit longer to find out if their dreams of playing on a turf field will come true, as the district's plans to install turf at DeSantis field have been put on hold, reports the News Times.

In the face of state budget cuts, Superintendent Christine Carver said that it would be better to wait until the state budget is finalized. However, school officials stressed that the district is not abandoning the project, but wants to fully understand what the state's budget would mean for the district.

Based on the current budget proposal, Bethel stands to lose $3.8 million in aid to the school district. The cost of the project would be about $1 million.
